2019 PIPELINE PITCHER OF THE YEAR
TOP MINOR LEAGUE STARTING PITCHER MiLB

The Padres see MacKenzie Gore as a starting pitcher at the top of the rotation for years to come. Gore was the #3 overall pick by the Padres in 2017 and is currently the highest rated pitcher on the top 100 MLB Pipeline list, at #4.

Gore finished the season at AA Amarillo and seems destined to make his way to San Diego at some point in 2020 after he was named the top minor league starting pitcher for 2019.

Gore has four plus pitches which at 20 years old makes him an untouchable piece of the future like Chris Paddack and Fernando Tatis. Big shoes to fill for a kid who was in high school three years ago, but he does seem up to the task.

Luis Patino was signed by the Padres during their 2016 International signing period and it didn't take long for the Padres to see that they had something special in the now 20 year old from Columbia.

Patino closed out the 2019 Futures Game with his electric 98 mph fastball in Cleveland that helped to elevate his stock as a prospect and within a few months, like Gore was elevated from A ball to AA Amarillo.

Patino and Gore developed a friendship while pitching at A level Fort Wayne together and have had fun pushing each other to be better at their craft.

The Padres almost certainly see Patino as an untouchable piece of their future and would likely only trade the young hurler if they could acquire a talented major league player that would help them compete for the postseason for the next 2-3 seasons. With young quality controllable pitching becoming a premium in today's game, it seems unlikely that the Padres would say goodbye to a player with such tremendous upside.

MINOR LEAGUE AFFILIATES

PRO TIP: If you like to travel, especially if you live in California there are plenty of opportunities to see the San Diego Padres minor league affiliate teams at home or on the road. According to MLB.com as of January 2020, the Padres have the number one ranked farm system in all of baseball. This honor doesn't happen often so while we have a plethora of talent up and down the minor league levels, take the opportunity to see the talented youth across the organization before they come to Petco or get traded.
